The creation of Lwengo district from Masaka has heightened the political temperatures amongst aspirants seeking to fill the vacant district seats.

Lwengo is among the 14 districts recently approved by cabinet.

Lwengo which boarders Rakai in the West, Masaka in the North and Sembabule in the North West, comprises of Bukoto Midwest, Bukoto South, and Bukoto West.

The approval of Lwengo into a district has forced aspiring politicians to start preparing for the elections.

Gertrude Nakabira Lubega, the Sembabule District Education Officer has resigned her civil service job to start campaigning for the Lwengo District Woman Parliamentary Seat.

Nakabira says that she decided to resign her job to join politics because of the political wrangles that have made it difficult for her to serve in Sembabule.

47-year-old Nakabira says she is going to use her 30-year working experience in education to address issues of illiteracy and unemployment in Lwengo.

// Cue in: "Start to mobilize..."

Cue out: "...through out the country.

Umar Sebulime, the Masaka district NRM Secretary has also started campaigning for Lwengo district LC5 seat.

Sebulime, who represents Malongo and Kyazaanga Sub County, says he wants to address the issue of poor health service delivery in the area.

Sebulime says that Masaka district heath department has up to now failed to stock drugs in Kyazaanga and Malongo health centers.

Sebulime also says he will also address the issues of poor road network in Lwengo, which has curtailed transportation of agricultural produce to the market centers.

Other people who have launched political campaigns for different positions are Cissy Namujju for woman MP, Teopista Mbabazi; who is eyeing the LC V seat.
