Poor Road Network Irks Rukiga Residents

The poor road network in Nyakashebeya and Kitunga parishes in Kashambya Sub County Rukiga district has enraged residents. They accuse the district and the government of neglecting the road network in their area, which is affecting their livelihood.  

Amos Mugisha, a trader in Muhanga trading center, says that ever since Rukiga was curved out of Kabale in 2017, local leaders have been making empty promises to work on the poor road network in their area in vain.  

  Mary Agaba, another trader in Muhanga trading center, says the poor road network affects the transportation of their produce especially sorghum to the market. She says that one may take a ride of 5 hours from home to urban centers like Muhanga and other market centers.

John Muguma, a resident of Kashambya parish, says the entire road stretch that links Kashambya parish to Kashambya health center II is full of potholes. He says Boda boda raiders have doubled their fare from Shillings 3000 to Shillings 6000 yet most families are struggling financially.

Elineo Bandaganire, the Kashambya Sub county LC III Chairperson wants the district to urgently rehabilitate the road network to ease their movement and transportation of their produce to the market.

    James Kiganda, the Rukiga District Engineer attributes the poor road network to inadequate machinery, saying the district has only one truck for road works. He says that as a result, they find it hard to fix roads in the district.
