Security at the Uganda-Rwandan border post in Katuna remains tight as the Rwandan head of state Paul Kagame and his family celebrate the Christmas with President Museveni in Rwakitura.
Capt. Robert Kamara, the second division army spokesperson, said on Sunday that security at the border post will remain tight until president Kagame concludes his five day private visit to Uganda.
On Friday, Paul Kagame, started a five day private visit to Uganda where he will celebrate Christmas Holiday with his counterpart, President Yoweri Museveni, at his country home in Rwakitura in Kiruhura District.
President Kagame accompanied by his wife Jeanette Kagame and their three children was on Friday afternoon received at Katuna Boarder Post by his host President Museveni who was also flanked by his wife, Janet Museveni.
President Kagame later attended a salute and inspected a guard of honor that was mounted by the Uganda People’s defense Forces.
In his remarks President Museveni hailed the improved good relationship being enjoyed by peoples’ of the two countries since Rwanda was admitted to the East African Community.
Museveni called upon the locals leaders of the two countries to cooperate to address water and trade issues that affect people from the two countries.
The two leaders jointly commissioned the reconstruction of the Mbarara Katuna Highway that connects the two countries.
Paul Kagame commended the European union for supporting the two states in funding the road from Kigali to Kampala which he said it will address the congestion on the highway.
Kagame says the business communities face a challenge to use the route as the time spent has doubled to its poor state.
He says Rwanda receives 290 vehicles using the road on a daily basis according to the July statistics. He said the roadworks will increase the transportation of goods to east African heads of states.
The road to cost 170 million Euros will be completed by 2014 is apart of the Northern corridor that links land locked Rwanda to the Mombasa Port in Kenya.
