Kalangala Power Underutilized

Only 45 percent of the 1.6 megawatts of power produced by Kalangala Infrastructure Services is used by Kalangala residents.

Kalangala Infrastructure Services produces power from a solar- thermal power plant found in Bukuzindu and Mugoye Sub County. Close to 2500 households are connected on the grid.

According to a recent announcement by the Electricity Regulatory Authority - ERA, a domestic unit cost of power in Kalangala costs Shillings 702.1 while the commercial cost is at Shillings 816.2.

Residents have complained in the past about the increasing cost of the power. Novat Baliremwa, one of the power consumers wonders why the unit cost of power in Kalangala raises on a daily basis.
