A probe committee tasked with investigating corruption allegations within the Kasese District Service Commission has officially commenced its investigations. The inquiry began on Tuesday and is set to continue until October 2, 2024.
The committee's initial meetings included discussions with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and the district LCV chairperson, and it plans to engage with the media during the investigation. Furthermore, open public meetings will be held in various constituencies to gather input from stakeholders, community members, and civil society organizations (CSOs).
This investigation follows a decision made earlier this month by the Kasese District Council to form a select committee in response to public outcry regarding alleged incompetence, misconduct, corruption, and abuse of office by some members of the commission, along with other political and technical leaders.
Kabuzungwire Moris, the committee chairperson, urged community members to support the inquiry. He encouraged victims of the alleged corruption to come forward and provide testimony. Additionally, Johnson Mayora, the district council speaker, has mandated the committee to report back with its findings within one month.
