Two Russian Nationals and a Ugandan who are undergoing institutional quarantine at Bomah Hotel in Kitgum Municipality have tested negative to coronavirus disease-COVID-19.

Test Samples from Gribov Vladislav, Kozhevin Viacheslav and their driver Joseph Aburek were extracted last week by health officials in the district and taken for the test at Uganda Virus Research Institute in Entebbe. Health officials in the district who didn’t want to be named due to sensitivity of the matter says test results of the suspects which turned out negative were released over the weekend by Ministry of Health.

They were arrested in the district on April 11, for disobeying presidential directives restricting movement as part of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus and illegal use of a statehouse registration number plate.

Kitgum Resident District Commissioner William Komakech confirmed the development to Uganda Radio Network in an interview on Monday. He says they are waiting for the discharge certificate from the Health Ministry to empower health officials to discharge them from quarantine.

Komakech, however, says after the suspects are released from quarantine, they will be handed to police where they still have a case to answer for disobeying presidential directives and illegal use of statehouse registration number plate.

He adds that three local leaders who had been placed under quarantine after meeting the Russians will be discharged today since their contacts have been found healthy. They are Quirino Olum, the Orom Sub County Chairperson, Abraham Aturu Darabin, LCV Councilor Orom Sub-county and Kenneth Nyero Nyok-cek, Namokora Sub-county Councilor.

According to police reports, the Russians arrived in Uganda through Entebbe International airport on February 23, 2020, and have since been residing in Wakiso and Kampala respectively.  They reportedly entered Kitgum district last week and proceeded to Orom Sub county to a graphite site where they met with local leaders before being arrested by police.
