Rainstorm Destroys Houses in Kasese

The heavy storm swept through four cells leaving households counting losses after houses and gardens were destroyed.

10 houses have been destroyed and five people injured after a heavy rainstorm hit Muhokya Town Council, Kasese District. 

The storm swept through four cells leaving households counting losses after their houses and gardens were destroyed. The storm also blew off the roof of the Muhokya market shade. 

The affected persons are camped at Muhokya SDA church.  Isingoma Moris, a resident of Mutukura Cell, said that he had just gone to the centre when heavy rains started. However, after the rains ceased, he was alerted that the entire roof of the house had been blown off. 

He adds that all his furniture and other essential items in the house were destroyed.

Rashid Maimuna another resident told URN that two houses in Rutoke and Kisenyi cells belonging to her children were destroyed.  She says, one of the houses was being occupied by tenants and subsequently a source of income to the family.

Tabarawa Moses said he had spent nearly 10 million Shillings on his incomplete structure that had been brought down by the heavy rains and wind. 

Clovis Bikoma, the LCI Chairperson Kisenyi Cell says that three permanent houses were destroyed by the storm.   He appeals to the government to work out a quick intervention plan to aid the affected households.

Meanwhile, heavy rains also destroyed crop gardens in Nyakiyumbu sub-county.

On Saturday heavy rains led to the flooding of River Nyamwamba. Two people died after they were swept by the floods that swept through the Kasese town. 

The LCV Chairperson Kasese, Eliphaz Muhindi said they will inspect the affected areas and present a report to the government for immediate action. However, he appeals to the community in disaster-prone areas to vacate to avoid human life loss.
