Fred Kyangabo, the embattled head teacher of Kiziba High school has been sacked for embezzling 1.6 million shillings meant for registering senior four candidates for their final exams. His sacking comes a day after it emerged that Kyangabo embezzled the money meant for registering 14 candidates for their Uganda Certificate Examinations.

On Monday, the students were turned away from writing their final examinations by invigilators because their names didn’t appear on the list of candidates prepared by Uganda National Examination Board- NEB. They are Pacific Aryasuma, Joseph Katungye, Agnes Kembabazi, Dick Kiwanuka, Augustine Nabende, Sam Kyatarita, Gaudde Nalubowa and Zeridda Nalule.

Others are Faith Nankunda, Cissy Natongo, Simon Nuwamanya, David Tinkamanyire Tito Yamumpereleka and Ivan Nyesiga. The affected students tried to block their colleagues from sitting their exams forcing police to intervene and restore order. This morning, anti riot police deployed at the school to provide the candidates extra security during their examinations. Vennacio Tumumanye, deputy head teacher Kiziba says that in addition to disappearing with UNEB funds, his boss also made off with unspecified amount of money meant for feeding students. He says the school is now facing a severe funding crisis.

Peter Ntalagi, Rakai District schools Inspector says  as a result of the theft of UNEB funds, Kyangabo has been sacked. Ntalagi explains that Rakai district education department has ordered for the immediate interdiction of Kyangabo for breaching the Education act.

Ntalagi says the education department is planning to write to the district service commission to replace him because he has abused his responsibilities. According to Ntalagi, James Nkata, Rakai CAO has also stopped the payment of Kyangabo.

Umar Kayima, Rakai district Secretary for Education who also rushed to the scene says when the district official visited the school this morning they found Kyangabo had relocated his family from Kiziba.

He explains that by Kyangabo relocating his family it shows that he is guilty. Kyangabo has declined to comment on the matter. He told URN on phone that he was in Kampala pursuing the same matter when our reporter called him.
