Police in Kyotera town, Rakai, have recovered a gun with two rounds of ammunition that was stolen from a security guard earlier this year.

The gun was stolen from Philip Mugabo, a security guard attached to DAMOCOS security group while on duty at Bakita Guest House on May 2nd.

The gun was recovered from a rental house in Kyotera Cell 2 following a tip off from concerned residents.

Officer-in-Charge Kyotera Police Station Patrick Mayikura confirmed the recovery of the firearm.

Mayikura praised vigilant residents who became suspicious of a man who had rented a room but was rarely seen in the neighbourhood. His strange behaviour of disappearing in the night raised their suspicion which prompted them to alert the village authorities.

After monitoring, the local leaders informed police of their suspicions who cordoned off the area. A search uncovered the gun wrapped in a black trouser and hidden under a bed. Police were, however, unable to arrest the unidentified man as he was not present during the search.

Mayikura said the gun could have been used in staging robberies. The area had lately witnessed an increase in robberies, illegal road blocks and theft which sparked a public outcry.

Mayikura revealed that the security guard is still helping Police with investigations.
