Angry residents of Lukondo village in Byakanda Sub-county in Rakai district have demolished two houses and torched a motorcycle belonging to Fulugensio Jjuuko on suspicion of masterminding the death of 22-year-old John Mukaaya.

Mukaaya suffered severe burns after unidentified arsonists torched his house around 2 am on Tuesday morning. Residents started pointing accusing fingers at Jjuuko, saying he had repeatedly threatened to kill Mukaaya for his alleged involvement in a sexual affair with his wife.

They ganged up and raided Jjuuko’s home where they destroyed two houses, motorcycle and banana plantation. Police rushed to Lukondo village and rescued Jjuuko from the angry mob that wanted to lynch him on allegations that he had a hand in Mukaaya’s death.

Umaru Matovu, the Lukondo LC I Chairperson, says the assailants locked Mukaaya’s house from outside before they torched it. He says Mukaaya raised alarm, which attracted his neighbours. They knocked down the door and rescued him with severe burns, which later claimed his life.

According to Matovu, the irate residents waited for police to leave the vicinity and turned their furry on the suspect’s property. Siraje Kato Mujuzi, a friend to the deceased’s family told URN that by the time police returned to the scene, residents had already demolished the suspect’s property forcing his family to flee for dear life.

He says they are looking for all those who participated in the mob action.

He also reveals that they have opened murder charges against Jjuuko vide CRB 77/2020.  Jjuuko denies any involvement in the arson attack.
