A gun that was recovered in Kakumiro district on Tuesday belonged to a UPDF officer who was killed in Mubende district.
The Sub Machine gun- SMG registration Number UG- UPDF 49009707 was recovered
from a man on Monday evening in Kakumiro town, Kakumiro district.
Security received information from a whistle-blower that a man was
carrying a bag containing a suspicious object in Kakumiro town on Monday evening.
Security personnel who included the police and Internal Security Organization-ISO
intercepted the man but he fled and dropped the bag. The officers checked
the bag and recovered a gun with 30 rounds of ammunition.
Julius Hakiza, the Albertine region police spokesperson says that
investigations have established that the gun belonged to Lance Corporal Geoffrey Turyahabwe attached to Mubende Military Rehabilitation Centre.
Turyahabwe was attacked and killed by unknown assailants on Sunday. He
was hit with a blunt object before his gun was stolen.
