Byamungu has directed the district health officer-DHO to immediately process
the redeployment of all appointed staff of Kilembe Mines Hospital-KMH to other
health units in the district.
The directive of the CAO follows a decision by the ministry
of health to halt operations of Kilembe mines hospital by withdrawing any government
support.
In a statement issued this week, by the minister of health Jane
Ruth Aceng Acero noted that Kilembe Mines is situated along River
Nyamwamba catchment area with a history of recurrent strong floods and they
cannot continue providing funds to the hospital that is prone to recurrent
destruction.
In his other communication dated 3rd/February/2023 addressed to the Kilembe Mines Hospital superintendent, Byamungu asked the
superintendent to prepare details of the staff who have been posted at the facility
for re-deployment, arrange to clear arrears of other staff whose contracts
under the tripartite agreement were not paid up to the end of the agreement and process
payment of all liabilities.
The CAO also ordered KMH to stop fund requisitions and
cancel all existing local purchase orders.
According to a statement by the minister of health, the government will construct a Health Centre III in Bulembia Division, Kasese municipality, instead of revamping KMH and subsequently Rukoki Health Centre IV will also be upgraded to district hospital status to improve access to health services.
