Kennedy Arike, a Trainer from Muni University, explained that the intervention aims at equipping the unemployed youths with ICT and business skills, so that they can fit in today’s changing world.
At least 100 refugees
and host communities in Koboko district have been skilled in financial literacy
and ICT skills.
The three-month program funded by the Master
Card Foundation and implemented by Muni University targets youths in the age
brackets of 18-35 years in areas of savings, use of online applications, website designing,
graphics, networking, Computer Accessories and Software development.

their earnings, save and invest in productive ventures.

Some of the youths who benefited from the ICT
and financial literacy training have welcomed the skills training, which they
say has transformed them, and they also appeal to other youths to take up such
opportunities for the betterment of their lives.

Meanwhile, Sabino Lemeriga, the Mayor of Koboko
North Division, commended the first
cohort of trainees for taking up the opportunity, which he said will offer them
better survival skills.

The Master Card Foundation skilling project is expected
to run for the next four years, with each cohort of the beneficiaries taking
three months before being passed out.
The beneficiaries are expected to open up
business centres where they can put into practice what they have learned and
work to sustain them.
