Requiem Mass Underway for Fallen West Buganda Bishop

A special requiem mass is underway for the fallen Bishop of West Buganda Diocese Rt. Rev. Godfrey Makumbi at St. Paul\'s Cathedral Kako in Masaka district.

Bishop Makumbi lost the battle to throat cancer on Sunday at the Uganda Cancer Institute in Mulago, where he had been admitted for close to two weeks. His remains arrived at his home in Kako last evening.

Rev. Canon Eliabu Nkambo Mugerwa, a member of the burial management committee, says the mass which started this morning will precede a vigil at the Church, ahead of the burial scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday.

Born on 15th December 1962, Godfrey Makumbi was consecrated Bishop of West Buganda Diocese in January 2011 replacing Rt. Rev. Samuel Keffa Kamya Semakula. He is survived by a widow and four daughters.

Rev. Canon Samuel Mwesigwa, the West Buganda Diocesan Secretary describes the Bishop\'s demise as a sad moment in the diocese and family.
