Kalangala RDC Accused of Aiding Evictions from Landing Site

The Kalangala Resident District Commissioner-RDC, Caleb Tukaikiriza is under the spotlight for aiding the eviction of 2500 people from Kachanga landing site in Bufumira Sub County.

 

Led by their LC V councilor, Taddeo Mwesige, residents, say they are in dilemma after failing to locate the rightful owner of the 107-acre piece of land. 

In a meeting held on Thursday evening at the landing site, the residents claimed that Tukaikiriza has been working with security for the last three months to protect all those who want to evict them unlawfully.

In October 2017, city businessman, Yusuf Galabuzi claimed ownership of the disputed land. His grandchildren obtained letters of administration for the same land from Kampala high court in January 2018. 

Since Galabuzi no longer holds administration rights on the land, residents are now confused at who is the rightful owner.

Galabuzi's grandchildren also claim that they can't administer the land since their lawyer took over the land as security for the unpaid Shillings 50million legal fees he demands from them.

 

They also told residents that they risk eviction unless they pay Shillings 50 million to the lawyers who helped them to secure the letters of administration. The area Vice Chairperson, Betty Namakula, says residents don't have the required money.

The Kalangala LC V Chairperson, Willy Lugoloobi, says they will not allow the lawyer to evict the residents.
