Residents Decry Congestion at Jinja District Headquarters

Dozens of people thronged Jinja District headquarters on Tuesday to secure movement permits from the office of the Resident District Commissioner as directed by the president.  

Following the ban on both the public and private means of transport as part of the Corona Virus pandemic preventive measures, president, Yoweri Museveni directed those with emergencies to secure movement permits from Resident District Commissioners in their respective areas.

On Tuesday, dozens of people mainly care givers stormed the office of Jinja Resident District Commissioner, Eric Sakwa to secure movement permits, saying they need to ferry their loved ones to Health facilities for treatment.  

Some of the residents complained of congestion, which they comprises the recommended social distancing to stop the spread of the disease.

Elisa Masa, another resident from Bugembe town council wants the RDC to erect tents where those in need of his services can easily space themselves so as to control congestion.

However, the RDC, Erik Sakwa, says most of the people congesting his office are tricksters who are using patients to earn free movement permits. 

He says all patients have been advised to seek endorsement from their village chairpersons or health workers within their vicinity before receiving travel clearance.
