More than 150 families in Mutungo Zone III in Nakawa Division of Kampala city who are affected by the construction plan of Jinja-Kampala Express highway road are still waiting in for compensation in vain.

According to the residents, it is now three years since Uganda National Roads Authority -UNRA valued their land and properties for compensation and asked them to open up bank accounts, but shockingly, they haven’t received a single coin, yet they were stopped from carrying out any other development activities on their land.

During their meeting  with the area leaders, the locals complained that since the evaluation exercise, they have not heard any response on the delays of compensation from Uganda National Roads Authority. Now most of the landlords are decrying that their tenants no longer wants to pay rents claiming that anytime URNA will start demolishing houses.

Geoffrey Bwire one of the residents says that it has been now three years since, the evaluation exercise was done; He notes that unless UNRA is going to re-evaluate them, the first valued compensation money is no longer adequate for their properties.

Jumah Kasonga, a landlord  says they have waited enough without being paid, UNRA should come out and tell them that they failed to pay them and start renovating their  rental houses so that they can earn from their property.
