Residents roughed up the suspect identified as John Mwesigwa when he together with another suspect still at large broke into the residence of father Robert Kalumba on Tuesday night.
Police in Katabi town
council in Entebbe Municipality are holding a man for breaking into the
residence of Catholic Parish priests in Mpala.
Residents roughed up the suspect
identified as John Mwesigwa when he together with another suspect still at
large broke into the residence of father Robert Kalumba on Tuesday night.
One of the priest’s domestic
workers spotted the intruders along a well-lit corridor after midnight. The
worker notified his other colleague and they shouted for help.
The alarm
attracted the attention of the priest forcing him to storm out of his room only
to find the workers chasing after the intruders.
One of the suspects
managed to get away using the backdoor, while Mwesigwa was captured with the
help of residents from the neighbourhood.
According to Fr. Kalumba, the
residents descended on Mwesigwa and beat him up because of anger since this was
the fourth attempted robbery at his residence since 2017.
He explains that residents tied Mwesigwa's hands and feet because police
officers from Mpala and Abaita Ababiri police stations did not respond in time to
their call.

He says that they need
heightened security at their residence because of the previous incidents.

A team of police officers from Mpala police station later picked up the visibly
weak Mwesigwa and bundled him on police patrol vehicle.
Police were yet to
press any charges against the suspect by the time of filing this story.
