More than 1000 residents of Buwampa village in Nyenga division in Njeru municipality in Buikwe district are protesting the stench and dirty liquid from the dumping site of Modern distillers.

The residents claim the stench pollutes the air while the dirty water is destroying their crop gardens and environs. The residents have been complaining to the local authorities including Buikwe Resident District Commissioner for the past two years in vain.

On Friday, the angry residents raided the dumping site and vandalized property including pipes and Lorries and assaulted their drivers as well. Residents claimed that they are living a hard life and battling infections because of the bad stench from the site.
