Residual Parliamentary Elections Underway in 10 Constituencies

The constituencies include Bufumbira East County, Busiki County, Dokolo South, Mawogola South, Kitagwenda County and Kibale County. The districts of Kween, Buyende, Yumbe and Kyegegwa are also voting today for women members of parliament.
Residual elections are underway in ten constituencies where elections for Members of Parliament were postponed by the Electoral Commission earlier.

The constituencies include Bufumbira East County, Busiki County, Dokolo South, Mawogola South, Kitagwenda County and Kibale County. The districts of Kween, Buyende, Yumbe and Kyegegwa are also voting today for women members of parliament.

Elections in the listed constituencies were called off after a number of inaccuracies detected on the ballot papers, February 18, 2016, the day of the general election.

In Kibaale, ballot boxes for the County were dispatched to Kitagwenda County and vice versa. In Dokolo County, the ballot papers had interchanged pictures against the names of two candidates; Daniel Okello and Jasper Okello. The two are independent candidates in a race that attracted seven candidates.

In Bufumbira East, the election was called off after a petition from the NRM candidate, Dr James Nsaba Buturo over a mix-up of candidates' symbols on the ballot. Buturo was assigned a bicycle on the ballot paper instead of a bus, the official NRM symbol.

Also interchanged were symbols for the candidates in the Kween Women Parliamentary race with a radio symbol printed against FDC candidate Esther Chemisto and a key, the official FDC symbol printed against independent candidate Grace Chemisto.

In Mawogola South, the DP symbol was printed against the NRM candidate Joseph Sekabiito, while the NRM bus was printed against the name and face of the DP candidate Vincent Sserwanga.

The mismatch in symbols also led to the cancellation of polls in Busiki County and in the Buyende district parliamentary race.  The symbol on the ballot paper for incumbent Buyende woman MP Veronica Kadogo who is contesting as an Independent candidate was changed from a saucepan to a table while in Busiki County, two candidates; Monica Kiirya and Ayub Kiirya's symbols were interchanged.

Kyankwanzi District will is also voting for  a  District Chairperson today.
