Reverend Collapses to Death During Burial in Kapelebyong

The Archdeacon of Kapelebyong Church of Uganda in Soroti Diocese Venn. George Robert Okodu is dead.

The cleric was leading a burial service for an area resident Nelson Akulau, in Odusai village, Kobuin Parish, Kapelebyong district on Thursday afternoon when he suddenly collapsed. He was pronounced dead upon arrival at Amuria Hospital.

According to Dominic Aojan, the District Councilor representing Akoromit Sub County, Rev. Okodu looked very healthy when he arrived for the burial service and had just delivered a powerful sermon on repentance and good governance shortly before blessing the tomb for the burial.

He remembers the deceased as a strong pillar in advocating for peace, education and good governance in Kapelebyong and the whole Teso Sub region.

Rev. Samuel Ediau, the Diocesan Secretary in Soroti says the passing on of Venn. Okodu is a big loss to the Church and community of Teso. He told our reporter on phone that the body has been transported to Soroti hospital for postmortem.

By the time of filing this story, the cause of death was not yet known. Dr Nick Okwii, the Amuria District health officer who received Venn. Okodu at Amuria hospital says he died before reaching the hospital.
