Police are hunting for a robber that abandoned a gun loaded with 28 bullets at a betting hall in Bwaise.
Kawempe Police Station has launched a hunt for a robber who
abandoned a gun at a betting shop in Bwaise after being wrestled by a security
Deputy Kampala Metropolitan police spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire, said the unidentified
thug raided the betting hall armed with a gun at around 2 am.
Police said the thug first fired in air perhaps to scare people around
including the guard.
However, since the lights were off, the guard took position in the dark and
watched the robber starting his search perhaps for money.
Owoyesigyire said the guard after seeing the gunman focused on the search, he wrestled
the robber who fled without the gun.
The recovered police gun UG Pol 565902694-32493 was loaded with 28 bullets.
Kawempe detectives have since launched a hunt for the thugs but also to
establish how the thug acquired a police rifle.
Last week police arrested one Abdul Kyazze at Maya along Kampala - Masaka road
carrying a police gun in a sack.
Kyazze told police that he was taking the gun for a mission.
More than 30 homes, factories and offices have been raided by
armed thugs in Kampala, Wakiso and Mukono districts since September.
