Head Coach Tolbert Onyango has named a 12-man team that will represent Uganda at the Rugby World Cup 7s slated for July 20-22 in San Francisco, USA.

Uganda qualified for the Rugby World Cup last year after beating Zimbabwe 22-10 to retain the Africa 7s Rugby Cup.

Onyango told URN that he has named the best 12 after preparations for several months. “This is the best 12 players we have ready for the World Cup,” said Onyango.

Uganda Rugby Cranes will start their campaign against Samoa in the preliminary round on July 21st, with the winner facing England in the Group of 16.

Micheal Okorach who captained the team at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth games in Australia together with Justin Kimono and Ivan Magomu have also made the team.

The new format at the World Cup 7s will see the losers in the preliminary round of 16 drop to bowl competition, while losers in round of 16 drop to the Challenge Trophy and winners move to the Championship. Besides Uganda, Zimbabwe, Kenya and South Africa are the other teams that will represent the African continent.
