Michael Ogwal, the Officer in Charge of Criminal Intelligence and Investigations-CIID department in Rukungiri district is in trouble for allegedly mismanaging a murder case file. Ogwal was picked up on Tuesday by officers from the Professional Standards Unit headquarters and locked up in Ntungamo district.

Ely Maate, the Kigezi Regional Police Spokesperson, says Ogwal and his deputy Frank Turamye are wanted for deliberately mismanaging a murder case file CRB 990/2016. Turamye is still at large. Maate says they have launched a manhunt for the officer to face disciplinary action.

Trouble for the duo started on 18th May 2016 after the body of unidentified man was found lying in a drainage channel along Rukungiri-Ishaka highway near Kagogo coffee factory in Rukungiri municipality.

According to Maate, despite getting vital information relating to the killing, the officers didn't take any serious steps to investigate the case to its logical conclusion. He says plans are underway to transfer Ogwal to the police headquarters in Kampala as investigations into the matter continue.
