Rukungiri Man Arrested After Stabbing of Woman to Death

According to the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate, Babweyoreka was arrested and is in custody at CPS Rukungiri.

Police in Rukungiri has been arrested 55-year old Deograsias Babweyoreka, a resident of Rushinya cell in Burama Parish, Bwambara sub county in Rukungiri district, over the brutal murder of 36-year old Veneranda Nyinamisango of the same area.

Within two days after Nyinamisango was stabbed to death, the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson Elly Maate, has announced that Babweyoreka has been arrested and is in custody at CPS Rukungiri.

Although Maate has avoided giving details, our reporter has learnt that the suspect was on Thursday night smoked out of hiding by residents  who handed him over to the Police for further action.

Babweyoreka has been on the run since Thursday after allegedly killing Nyinamisango  accusing her of stealing his nine million shillings.

According to area residents, the two have had a lengthy misunderstanding arising from money Nuwamisingo got from the sale of a disputed piece of land.

It’s alleged that the deceased has been in Police cells on allegation of stealing nine million shillings from Babweyoreka who went and reported to Bikurungu police station and the deceased was arrested with her husband and another suspect.

She was thereafter discharged on Wednesday and went back to Babweyoreka’s home to pick her properties.

“They fought each other and she was killed by the said Byeyoreka, on further accusation of theft of his monies in collaboration with her husband Namara Francis who is currently on remand at Rukungiri govornment prisons on charges of theft on reference number CRB 707/2021” Elly Maate the Kigezi Region Police spokesperson earlier on told the press in a statement.

After the incident, Babweyoreka allegedly called a friend notifying him of how he had done something unusual before disappearing.

Maate condemned the act and calls upon the public to cooperate with Police so that such issues are handled before claiming lives.

Police recovered exhibits from the scene and the body was taken to Rwakabengo Health Centre III mortuary pending postmortem.

Even before Babweyoreka was arrested, the case of murder by stabbing had been registered at Rukungiri Central Police station under Reference number 749/2021
