Education authorities in Rukungiri district have closed St. Charles Vocational High School Kiborogota in Kebisoni town council, for failure to meet minimum requirements.

The decision to close the school was reached on Friday morning by the Rukungiri District Education Officer, Jackson Nzarirwehi, the Chief Administrative Officer, Christopher Sande, Rukungiri district Chairman, Andrewson Kateebire and the Rukungiri District Police Commander, Moses Nanoka.

Nzarirwehi says that the decision to close the school follows a recent survey which showed that the accommodation for students in the boarding section does not meet the standards. He also accuses the school administration for collecting school fees from the students without issuing any receipts.

Kateebire accuses the school director Charles Kyomukama for hoodwinking the parents that he offers bursaries for students but turned against them in the middle of the term and demanded they pay school fees.

Kateebire says that all the teachers at the school were unqualified and senior six leavers.

He adds that the school has been closed until the administration improves the standards.

Lydia Tumuhierwe, one of the parents says that she has no problem with the closure of the school since education officials have saved their children from being cheated by the school director. She wondered why the school administration could decline to prepare meals and leave the students to starve.
