Rustler Injured in Nakapiripirit

The incident happened at Lopangae village, Kamatere parish, in Nabilatuk Sub County, some 60 kilometres South West of Moroto town.
One rustler has been injured in a foiled cattle raid in Nakapiripirit district, Karamoja sub region. The rustler is on the run with his gang.

The incident happened at Lopangae village, Kamatere parish, Nabilatuk Sub County, some 60 kilometres from Moroto town.

The Uganda People's Defence Forces have launched a manhunt using the traces of blood left by the injured rustler.

Micheal Loyoro, the kraal owner, says the rustlers stormed his kraal at around 2.00 am Tuesday morning. He shot one of the rustlers with a bow and arrow. He adds that the rest managed to escape including the one who was injured.

Capt. Denis Omara, the UPDF 3rd Division, confirms the incident saying cattle theft is on the increase specifically between Nakapiripirit and Napak districts also between  Teso and Karamoja. He however, observes that recoveries are up to 95 percent.

He explains that peace committees have been empowered to track the thieves hence limiting the interface of the army with the local population. He is optimistic that the UPDF will prevail over the escalating theft saying the army is committed to sustaining the current peace levels in the sub region.

On the Teso cattle theft, Omara blames the local community for conniving with the Karimojong to steal animals. He cites a case where seven cows bearing Teso brand were impounded in Napangae village, Napangae parish in Nabilatuk Sub County.   He adds that intelligence indicates that plans are being hatched by the Iteso. He appeals to rustlers to desist from cattle theft saying most of them risk life.

So far, the incident is among numerous raids that have of recent hit Moroto, Napak and Nakapiripirit districts as the festive season draws nearer.
