Rwandan Woman Arrested for Dumping New Born Baby in Kagadi

Kusemererwa reportedly abandoned her 3-week-old baby girl in Kyomukama A cell, Kagadi town council in Kagadi district on 24 May 2021 before she fled to unknown destination.


Police in Kagadi are holding a Rwandan woman on allegations of dumping her new born baby girl in plantation in Kagadi district. The suspect is Sharon Kusemererwa 23.  

The suspect Sharon Kusemererwa, aged 23 years reportedly abandoned her 3-week-old baby girl in Kyomukama A cell, Kagadi town council in Kagadi district on May 24th, 2021 before she fled to an unknown destination.  

The baby was discovered by passersby who found the baby crying and alerted the LC1 chairperson who later informed  Kagadi police.

After taking the baby to the Child and Family protection Unit at Kagadi CPS, Police liaised with the management of Bless the Children Ministries that takes care of the Orphans in the district that offered to take care of the baby.  

Since then, police launched an operation of hunting for Kusemererwa not until she was nabbed on Thursday.  She was arrested from Kyangwali Sub County in Kikuube district where she got married to another man.

She was immediately whisked to Kagadi central police station where she is currently being detained. Kenneth Bakashaba, the Kagadi District Police Commander (DPC) confirmed the arrest and detention of the suspect to Uganda Radio Network adding that they have preferred charges of Child desertion against the suspect.

He says once police investigations are concluded, the suspect will be arraigned before court to be charged accordingly.

On Sunday last week, a body of new born baby was also found dumped by the road side in Hoima City.

The body of the new born baby that was dumped by an unknown person was found wrapped in a box by residents of Bujumbura East cell in Hoima west Division Hoima City who later alerted police. Police rushed and picked the body that was later taken to Hoima City Mortuary.
