Omusinga wa Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere is holding a meeting with the Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura to address the Kasese district clashes. The meeting is being held at Hotel Margherita in Kasese.
Omusinga wa Rwenzururu Charles Wesley Mumbere is holding a meeting with the Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura to address the Kasese district clashes. The meeting is being held at Hotel Margherita in Kasese.
Omusinga Mumbere and IGP Kayihura spoke to the press before retreating for the closed door meeting.
Kayihura said he had requested for the meeting
in order to reduce the tension in Kasese district. Kayihura also said that he hopes the meeting will revive a cordial relationship between the government and the Obusinga bwa Rwenzururu.
Omusinga Mumbere welcomed Kayihura's initiative. He said the Rwenzuru kingdom and its people are peaceful.
Omusinga Mumbere said that he hopes the government will agree to constitute an independent commission
to investigate the source of conflicts in the Rwenzori region.
Omusinga Mumbere also said he had heard that Kayihura intended to storm the king's palace on Sunday. Kayihura quickly denied this and said that he had flown to Kasese to personally assess the security situation after clashes broke out Friday, March 11 starting in Hima.
Omusinga Mumbere is accompanied to the meeting by the kingdom acting Prime Minister Thembo Kitumbire, and Attorney General Geoffrey Sibendire Bigogo and private secretary David Bradford Nguru.
Kayihura represented the police.
Omusinga Mumbere and Kayihura will address the press after the meeting which started at 11:15am.
