Rwenzururu Kingdom Loyalists Kick-Off Coronation Anniversary Activities

This is the first time the institution is celebrating its coronation anniversary since the arrest of Mumbere. Mumbere is currently facing treason, terrorism and murder charges arising from the November 27, 2016, military attack on his palace which left more than 100 people killed.

Obusinga Bwa Rwenzururu-OBR Kingdom loyalists are gearing up for the 55th coronation anniversary of King Charles Wesley Mumbere.

The Kingdom dedicated this year’s anniversary to strengthening efforts towards preserving the cultural heritage through environmental conservation.

On Thursday, the youths kicked off the coronation week and planted trees at the royal hill in Base Camp Upper, Kasese Municipality.

Gad Kule whose father participated in the attainment of the cultural institution told URN that this year’s event is an indication that OBR still exists and its subjects are determined to see its progress.

He called on government and local leaders to jointly work together and ensure that their cultural leader is set free.

Rosette Biira from Kicwamba Sub County says that the coronation activities will unite the kingdom subjects.

Biira is hopeful that the Omusinga will soon return to prevail over the kingdom activities and developments.

Kennedy Thembo a loyal subject says this year coronation is a sigh of relief after five years of waiting.

He said because of Covid-19 restrictions, they have invited about 200 guests to engage in different activities.

Jolly Kahyana the Speaker of OBR said they are planning to plant more than 1000 trees to beautify Kasese and also conserve the environment.

The OBR Prime Minister Joseph Kule says that they were instructed by Mumbere to organize events that will make the 55th coronation anniversary. He asked the Kingdom subjects to support the coronation activities.
