Sand Mines Bury Young Man

Amuza Mukoobe, a miner within the area says that they found Waiswa's lifeless body in one of the open sand mines. "We saw his sandals about 30 meters away from the sand mine, prompting us to search further and that's how we managed to retrieve his lifeless body that had been covered up in the sand," he said.
A sand mine has buried alive a young man in Kamuli district. The deceased is 24-year-old, Hassan Waiswa, a resident of Busuyi village, in Nabuwigulu sub-county in Kamuli district.

Waiswa reportedly went missing on Monday evening prompting local leaders and his relatives to mount a search for him in the neighboring trading centers in vain. His colleagues later discovered his lifeless body from the mine on Tuesday morning.

Waiswa is survived by a wife and two children. Ayasi Mutaasa, the deceased's father, says that his son has been their sole breadwinner of the family, adding that his demise is a big blow to their entire household. 

"My son has been catering for both our food and medical bills without fail. His death has left a big void in the whole family," he said. Amuza Mukoobe, a miner within the area says that they found Waiswa's lifeless body in one of the open sand mines.

Tito Batwawula, the LC III chairperson of Nabuwigulu says that there is unregulated sand mining in their area, which has claimed that lives of several youths since most of them lack the necessary life safety skills. 

Busoga North Region police spokesperson, Michael Kasadha, says that they have handed over the deceased’s body to Kamuli general hospital mortuary, awaiting post-mortem.
