The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced they will punish SC Villa player Denis Guma for skipping the Cranes trip to Morocco for the Invitational LG Cup.
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has announced they will punish SC Villa player Denis Guma for skipping the Cranes trip to Morocco for the Invitational LG Cup.

Rogers Mulindwa, the Federation spokesman said during a press conference at their offices in Mengo on Wednesday morning that the player was in the camp with the team, but vanished when the team was leaving for the Airport to fly out to Morocco. The player went ahead to feature for his team SC Villa in a League game on Tuesday. Mulindwa described Guma’s action as indiscipline.

Mulindwa said the FUFA Chief Executive Officer Edgar Watson who traveled with the team will sit down and decide the kind of punishment for the player.

The spokesperson said he hopes it was not the SC Villa management that was behind the player’s move to remain behind.

When URN contacted SC Villa’s Director of Football Strategy Joseph Kanaaba, he said they will stand by their player, noting that the player had family problems.

The official said it was within the players’ rights to ask to be excluded as per the International rules.

The Cranes are in Marrakesh and open their LG Cup Africa campaign against hosts Morocco on Friday. The other teams taking part in the event include the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and Sudan who qualified for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.
