Samuel Byansi, the Director
Nyanza International School in Jinja district has been arrested for allegedly
assaulting his Director of Studies, Frank Kamali.
It is alleged that
Kamali stormed Byansi’s office on Tuesday morning demanding for his last
term’s salary arrears worth 2,000,000 Shillings. A heated argument broke out
between the two and lasted for close to 30 minutes.
A teacher told URN on
condition of anonymity that he later saw Kamali rushing from Byansi’s office
complaining of neck injuries before running out of the school gate. A medical report
obtained from Sanimo Medical Clinic indicates that Kamali sustained neck and
backbone injuries.
Kamali subsequently, filed a case of assault at Jinja
Central Police Station leading to the Byansi’s arrest. Kamali says Byansi kicked him two times in the neck and tried to strangle him.
He says the suspect should have opted for legal means other than assaulting
him.
//Cue in: “omuntu…
Cue out…you know,”.
Byansi has denied the allegations saying that although they had an administrative issue at the
school, it did not in anyway result into a fight between him and the Director of Studies.
Henry Mugarura, the
Commander Jinja North Police Division Commander, said they had interrogated witnesses
in the matter.
