So far the DP party Presidential seat is being eyed by Norbert Mao, the Gulu District chairman. The DP youth wing wants to front Mao as the Party's flag bearer in the 2011 presidential elections.
But the final decision on who will lead the party will be made during the party's delegates conference, which also seeks to amend the Party's constitution.
Some of the proposed amendments are, reducing the term of office of leaders from five to three years, Deciding on whether or not the party president should continue serving as party president after losing national elections and legalizing the status of the Uganda Young Democrats-UYD as the party's youth wing.
Fred Mwesigwa, the party's publicity secretary, explains that DP's National Council, the Party's highest decision making organ will meet this month to decide when the grassroots elections will be held.
