A Joint security team comprising Police and Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF)  personnel in Otuke district have gunned down a notorious thief implicated in the loss of a police gun.

Norman Ouni Kauna, 36, a resident of Otuke Town Council was shot dead on Tuesday night while trying to rob a shop in Owinyo ward, Olilim Town Council.

Ouni allegedly attacked the shop owner holding him at gunpoint but the situation was saved when neighbors alerted police who in turn informed UPDF to launch a joint operation.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson said Ouni who has no military background was shot because he turned his gun against security.

The police gun No. UG POL 563617800 was recovered with six rounds of ammunition from Ouni’s hands.

The stolen gun was then used to murder one Costa Apio, a 37-year-old resident of Alutkot village as she returned from a drinking joint. She was sprayed with 13 bullets, leaving 13 cartridges and one live ammunition recovered from the scene.
