Security has been heightened as campaigns for candidates vying
for Kisoro District Woman MP by-election end today.
The by-election has attracted six candidates that include:
Independent Grace Akifeza Ngabirano, Rose Kabagyeni from the National
Resistance Movement (NRM), Juliet Musanase from the Forum for Democratic Change
(FDC) Najjanankumbi faction, Aisha Chimpaye of the People’s Progressive Party
(PPP), Sultana Salim Tana representing the National Unity Platform (NUP) and
Meble Ingabire from the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) party.

According to the Electoral Commission roadmap, the elections will be held on Thursday.
Elly Maate, the Kigezi Region Police Spokesperson, says that security presence is
aimed at making sure that the campaigns end peacefully.

Meanwhile, voting materials arrived in the wee hours of Tuesday
morning at exactly 2:00 am, according to Daniel Nayebare, Kisoro district
returning officer.
Nayebare says that the materials will be dispatched on Thursday at 4:30 am to various polling stations. There are
322 polling stations in the district.

The Kisoro Woman MP seat became vacant following the death of Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi, who was also the State Minister for Defense and Veteran Affairs, who passed away in September due to a heart
attack.
