Security personnel in Kasese and Bundibugyo Districts have banned travel documents issued by local council chairpersons.

Capt. Edwin Mawanda, the UPDF spokesperson Mountain Division says the joint security force has resolved to ban the use of the permits from local leaders after observing they were being abused.

Last month President Museveni said that transport restrictions will remain in place for all the 40 districts that border Uganda and other countries.

Mawanda says some people have been faking emergencies so that they can carry passengers or travel at will. He added that they will accept only travel permits from the office of the Resident District Commissioner.

Lately, local council chairpersons have been offering travel clearances to help in emergency cases.

Mawanda says the force will arrest any person who presents any document not issued bythe RDC.

Security personnel led by both police and UPDF on Thursday mounted a joint operation to arrest Bod Boda cyclists and soldiers carrying passengers.

Mawanda says that the operations that started on Thursday in Kasese, Bundibugyo and Ntoroko will continue until the current Covid-19 guidelines are lifted.
