Security Recovers Stolen School Water Pump in Kitgum Shop

The water pump worth 9.5 million shillings was recovered from Montana Electrical Center, a popular electrical appliance shop in Kitgum Municipality during a raid by the police on Monday.

Security personnel in Kitgum District have recovered an electric water pump belonging to YY Okot Memorial college, four months after it was stolen from the school premises.

The water pump worth 9.5 million shillings was recovered from Montana Electrical Center, a popular electrical appliance shop in Kitgum Municipality during a raid by the police on Monday.

The machine was reportedly stolen in February this year when the school management hired out part of the compound to host a wedding event.

Kitgum Resident District Commissioner, William Komakech told Uganda Radio Network in an interview that security got a tip off which helped them raid the shop where they found the water pump was being resold.

Komakech notes that the shop owner revealed that he bought the water pump at only 300,000 shillings from unknown people who had brought it to his shop around February.

He notes that the stolen machine has been retrieved and presented to the police as exhibit while the shop owner was also arrested and interrogated at Kitgum Central Police station.

Robert Oken, the Officer in charge of Criminal Investigation at Kitgum Central Police station says investigation into theft of the water pump which is still being kept at the station has commenced.

He notes that so far two suspects within Kitgum Municipality have been arrested in connection to the theft.
