Security Tightened in Kaabong Ahead of Polls

At least 500 personnel of the Police Field Force Unit-FFU have been deployed to Kaabong to back up the regular police and prisons manpower in the two regions of Mt. Moroto and Kidepo.

There is heavy security presence in Kaabong District ahead of Thursday’s election of the Woman Member of Parliament.

At least 500 personnel of the Police Field Force Unit have been deployed to Kaabong to back up the regular police and prisons manpower in the two regions of Mt. Moroto and Kidepo.  

The Resident District Commissioner, RDC Kaabong, John Rex Achilla says they are not taking any chances. 

Achilla said that the motive is to ensure that elections are conducted peacefully.

Achilla added that the UPDF has also increased its presence at the borders with Turkana in Kenya as well as South Sudan to ensure that peace and security prevails during and after the elections.

Two candidates are vying for the Kaabong Woman MP race after Rose Lilly Akello resigned to represent newly created Karenga District. They include the NRM’s Christine Tubo and FDC’s Judith Adyaka.

The Kidepo Regional Police Commander, Stephen Onencan said police is prepared to take charge of security during the elections and are working with other security agencies to ensure the elections are conducted smoothly.

Elections will also be held in Hoima District tomorrow after Tophace Kaahwa Byagira, chose to represent the people of the newly created Kikuube district that was carved out of Hoima and became operational in July 2018.
