Alex Cherotich, the former body guard of Lt. Col. Juma Seiko is to spend the next 35 years in jail for two counts of murder.

Justice Flavia Anglin Ssenoga of the High Court Criminal Division found Cherotich guilty of murdering Lameck Ogwang and Fred Sembatya, both Boda boda riders.

He also found him guilty of two counts of the attempted murder of Ssenkubuge and Solomon Mugabi and sentenced him to 25 years in jail. The two escaped with gunshot wounds.

While sentencing the convict on Monday afternoon, Justice Ssenoga said although Cherotich is a first time offender, he acted in a reckless manner by shooting at the duo.

She noted that the Boda boda riders were shot dead while returning Mugabi who was well known to the convict who didn’t allow them to explain themselves.

Mugabi was in the company of his friends, Ssenkubuge and Derrick Katumba.

The convict reportedly opened the door, picked up a gun and shot at the deceased in a violent manner, which took their lives and injured two others.

Cherotich’s woes started on December 3rd, 2016 when he shot his victims at the Nakasero based residence of Lt. Col Seiko who was by that time a "Major".

He arrested and remanded to Luzira Prison by Buganda Road Magistrates Court on two counts of murder.
