Senior Police Officer Commits Suicide by Drowning

According to a statement recorded by his wife Sentina Obaro, Ojandu woke up this morning in a 'weird mood.' He appeared to have some problems but I couldn't understand what had really happened,” Abaro told detectives shortly after the incident at their home in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District.
Police detectives at Kasangati policing division are investigating circumstances that prompted Senior Superintendent of Police Robert Ojandu, to commit suicide on Wednesday morning.

Abaro added that she rushed to inform the area LCI Chairman and ask him to talk to her husband but on coming back, she found all the children crying and the man had already thrown himself in a water pond.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango said the wife and the locals immediately communicated to the area police which responded for fact-finding and possible saving of life.

“Our police team visited the scene. The fire brigade team was called upon to retrieve the body from the deep well. The scene is well documented and statements have been recorded from the wife, children and relevant witnesses at the scene,” Onyango said.

Ojandu’s body was retrieved from the well, examined and conveyed to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem. Prior to his death, Ojandu was serving in the Peace support department at Naguru Police headquarters.

Last year 13 police officers committed suicide for various reasons which ranged from economic difficulties, infidelity and unwanted transfers.
