Seven people were killed and 10 others injured in separate motor accidents in Rwizi region over the weekend. One person died on spot and two others were injured in an accident that occurred at 12.45am in the wee hours of Sunday morning at Nyakahita 51kms from Mbarara town along the Mbarara- Masaka highway. Benson Mungasa, the Rwizi Regional Traffic Officer says the accident came after a Fuso registration number UAM/445F rammed into a trailer number UAK/477M/ UAD622Q while trying to dodge a stationary Fuso truck registration number UAH/300R.
Mugasa explains that the Fuso truck was parked by the roadside after it broke down because of a mechanical problem. He says that the trailer over turned killing its driver Sulaiman Wamala on spot. He says that the driver of the Fuso escaped an unhurt but three people who were aboard the truck sustained injuries and were rushed to Lyantonde Hospital. They are Fred Kato, Friday Gumisiriza and Alan Akandwanaho. Three other people were killed in an accident that occurred the same day at around 2.45am at the same spot as traffic police was trying to tow away the wreckage of the three vehicles that were involved in the first accident.
The accident occurred after a Fuso truck number UAP/334Q heading to Kampala crashed into a trailer number KBH/515M/ ZC44 O7. Martin Abilu, Rwizi regional police commander has identified two of the accident victims as Isaac Nkamisima and Milton Rutabuza, both residents of Kabale district. He says that the bodies of the trio have been taken to Lyantonde Hospital mortuary waiting to be claimed by their relatives.

The third accident that also claimed three people occurred along Mbarara Kakoba and Mbarara -Bushenyi roads. Poly Namaye, the Rwizi Regional police publicist says that the accident occurred at about 10am after a drunken driver she identifies as Agrey Tumusiime rammed into two boda boda motorcycle riders killing one instantly. The deceased has been identified as Babius Zirorera, who was riding a motorcycle number UDQ/045L. He says that other boda boda motorist was injured critically and is admitted atMbarara regional referral Hospital.Namaye says that Tumusiime will be charged in court later today. She explains that the fourth accident claimed the life of 5-year-old Derrick Turyamuhaki.
Namaye says that the accident occurred after Geoffrey Mwine, a teacher at Nyabubare secondary school while driving Rav 4 vehicle registration number UAD/705W lost control and knocked two motorcycle riders and several pedestrians including children walking to a nearby church for Sunday service. The injured are Jacklyn Nasasira, a pupil at Kashaka primary school, Analine Nabimanya, Alen Tusiime, Gerald Mugambe, and Rogers Abaho, a resident of Rwenshango village Bubaare Sub County in Mbarara district. Namaye says that this is the first time they have registered such a big number of fatal road accidents in one day since this year begun. She attributes the multiple road accidents to negligence and speeding.
