Ten People Killed in Lwengo Bus Accident

Ronald Muhwezi, the Lwengo Police commander says the accident was caused by a cow which suddenly hit the road and collided with a bus. The bus staggered and hit a commuter taxi and a Fuso truck

At least 10  people are confirmed dead and several others severely injured in an accident involving Global Bus and taxi along Masaka-Mbarara Highway.

The accident this morning happened at Kyetume trading centre in Lwengo district. The bus collided with  a taxi  registration number  UAX 715G and a fuso truck registration number UAX 141M.  

Eyewitnesses say the Global bus registration Number UAU710U  heading to Kampala was avoiding a cow that suddenly hit the road rammed into the taxi.

The dead include one Denix Nahoora, a journalist with Karo FM located in Lyantonde town. Police says most of those killed were travelling in taxi.

Uganda Radio Network has seen witnesses and relatives struggling to pull the victims of the  accident from the three wreckage. Uganda Radio network has also seen ambulances carrying those severely injured and the dead bodies to Masaka regional referral Hospital and Kitovu hospital.

Ronald Muhwezi, the Lwengo Police commander says that only three people could have survived with injuries in the taxi while several passengers in a global bus were rescued and taken to hospital in critical conditions.

Muhwezi says police will release a full report after.
