The Uganda National Netball Team, She Cranes on Wednesday completed
a third straight victory at the ongoing netball Pent Series at Patrick Lyambo
Police Training College Court in Windhoek, Namibia.
The team defeated Zimbabwe 79 to 40 to command a straight third win at the
tournament.
She Cranes were on top of their game from the kick-off and won the first
quarter. The first quarter ended 8-22 before adding seventeen to command a
20-39 halftime victory. In the last two quarters, She Cranes continued
dominating the play and extending their lead ending the third quarter 61-29
before finishing full with a 79-40 victory.
The victory takes the She Cranes to six points in a tournament that has six
nations as the only participants. Before the Zimbabwe clash, Uganda had already
registered a 76-22 victory over Zambia before beating Malawi 59-43 in the
second game.
The She Cranes is now left with two fixtures where they play neighbours Kenya on
Thursday before they play Namibia in their last fixture of the continental
championship.
The five-day event that will end on 5th November 2021 will then pave way for the
Africa Netball Championship scheduled for November 10-16 still that will be
held at the Israel Patrick Iyambo Police College Olympia in the Namibian
capital.
The tournament’s inaugural kick-off was in 2017 where Zimbabwe won the first
edition, while Namibia won in 2018. For the past two years, has not been taking
place due to the outspread of Covid-19. The Pent series are intended to
improve rankings as teams bid to secure slots for the 2022 commonwealth
games.
Sarah Babirye Kityo, Uganda Netball President thanked the players
for displaying a good game since the kick-off of the tournament.
