Shock As Tanzanian Driver Dies on Steering Wheel

There is tension in Lukaya town council in Kalungungu district following the death of a Tanzanian truck driver.

Suudi Madrikete Kayiji, who was driving a fuel truck registration number T 541CSA on his way from Kampala died while trying to park the truck at Lukaya park yard on Monday night.  

Herman Muzeyi, one of the residents, says initially they thought robbers had blocked the road, but upon a closer look, they realized that the trucker is dead on the steering wheel.

He says they immediately notified police, which tried to pull the fuel truck from the middle of the road in vain.

Muhammad Nsubuga, the Southern Region Police Spokesperson, says the deceased’s’ body is lying at Masaka Regional Referral hospital pending postmortem to establish the cause of death.   

Nsubuga has warned drivers against driving long distances without getting sufficient rest, saying they risk collapsing on the job as the case is been with the truck driver.

He says police has towed the truck to Lukaya police station and reopened Kampala-Masaka highway after being blocked for several hours.
