Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo says that Jackie Wolfson was deported for Violating Immigration laws.
"This is to inform the public that #JacquilineWolfsom holding a tourist visa, but passing as a charity giver under #ShuleFoundation has been removed from Uganda for violation of immigration laws," Opondo Tweeted through his handle @OfwonoOpondo.
Opondo added that there is no record at immigration that Wolfsom has ever applied for a work permit since 2014 when she started visiting Uganda.
On Monday, Wolfson tweeted on her handle, saying she had arrived home, sound and safe. Our reporter was unable to get in touch with Wolfson to get details on her alleged deportation. However, in her open letter issued on August 27, Wolfson denied being involved in any political activities.
"I unequivocally state that we do not align to any political affiliation either in United Sates nor in Uganda and certainly do not fund or donate to political campaigns or politicians in any country. We do not divert any amount of donated funds to any person(s) or organization(s) that is not within our mission, nor do we participate in electioneering,” reads her statement.
Shule Foundation is a nonprofit organisation, which supports street children and education on a cost sharing model between the organization and parents in Bweyogerere, Kampala. Efforts by our reporter to speak to Jacob Siminyu, the Immigration Spokesperson were futile as his phone went unanswered.
On July 20, 2018, Shule foundation organised a charity show at Serena show to raise funds to build a school for former street kids. Renowned South African artist Yvone Chaka Chaka and Bobi Wine performed as key artists.
The Information, Communication and Technology Minister, Frank Tumwebaze told URN that he wasn't aware of the alleged deportation of Wolfson. He promised to find out. Unconfirmed reports show that Anne Whitehead, Bobi Wine's Public Relations manager has also left the country under unclear circumstances.
But some media reports claim that Whitehead who has been in charge of Bobi Wine's publicity is on leave. Our reporter couldn't independently verify the claims by the time of filing this story.
