Light heavy weight boxer, 81kg Regan Simbwa on Wednesday failed to make it to the medal bracket at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games in Australia.

The 21-year old suffered defeat to Sammy Lee (Wales) 3-1 in a quarter final fight at the Oxenford Studios Arena. The young (19-years) but tactical Lee knocked down Simbwa in the first round.

To reach the quarters KCCA Club boxer defeated Lukmon Lawal from Nigeria. Juma Miiro remains Uganda's only boxer in the medal bracket ahead of his semi final fight (46-49kg) against India's Amit on Friday.

On Wednesday Uganda's only athlete on the track and field Josephine Lalam finished in a miserable 8th position in the women's javelin final. She managed a distance of 48.92, while Australia's Mitchell Kathryn covered 68.92 to win gold.

Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei (5,000m) and Stella Chesang (women 10,000m) have so far won gold medals for Uganda, while Mercyline Chelangat bagged bronze in the 10,000m race as well. Defeat for Miiro in the semi final will see him settle for a bronze medal.
