Six Die in Yumbe Accident

At least six people have been confirmed dead and three others are hospitalized following a motor accident in Yumbe district.

The incident happened on Wednesday afternoon in Akuru Parish, Kululu sub-county when a Fuso truck with registration number UBE 917U and loaded with bags of charcoal.

According to eye witnesses, the driver of the Fuso lorry was intercepted by local leaders accompanied by a Police officer. The driver who is still on the run was instructed by the authorities to drive the intercepted truck to Kululu sub county headquarters but on his way, he e driver reportedly took a different route.

This prompted the Police officer who was being carried by one of the sub county officials on a motorcycle which was escorting the lorry to the headquarters to allegedly shoot to scare the driver, but the truck overturned.

Meanwhile, Ali Maliamungu, the LC 3 chairperson for Kululu sub county has described the incident unfortunate. He however blamed the driver for disobeying lawful orders saying the accident would have been avoided.

The Fuso lorry which belongs to Midigo Express company, a local transport firm was from Malanga village heading to Arua city before it overturned killing the six people on spot.

The North West Nile region Police Spokesperson, Ignatius Dragudu, confirmed the unfortunate incident but said he could not give details of the accident as they were still profiling the scene of the accident.

“It’s true six people died in the accident in Yumbe, but I am yet to get all the details call me later, he added.

The bodies of the deceased have been taken by their relatives while three people who got injured are being treated at Yumbe regional referral hospital and Yumbe health center IV. The identities of the deceased  have not yet been identified, by the time of filling this report.

The latest fatal accident is the second in a space of five days to happen in the West Nile sub regio, where more than a dozen people have lost their lives .

On Friday last week six women traders perished in a motor accident along Vurra -Anguru -Arivu mission road in Arua district while traveling to the weekly Okubani Market in Madi Okollo district.
