Six Members of Parliament in Bugisu sub-region were defeated in
the National Resistance Movement- NRM party primaries.
The MPs include Minister of State for Trade and the incumbent MP for Bungokho
South Michael Welikhe Kafabusa who was defeated by Wanda Richard who polled 17,613
against Welikhe’s 7,063 votes.
The Bulambuli County MP Alex Burundo who garnered 5,162 votes lost to Isaac
Katenya who polled 8,753 votes. In Manafwa district, the Bubulo West MP, Rose
Mutonyi lost to Mary Goreti Kitutu, the Minister for Energy and Mineral
Development and Incumbent district woman MP.
In Bududa district, Isaac Madoi defeated the Incumbent MP for Lusteshe
Constituency Watenga Godfrey Nabutanyi.
Madoi got 14,378 votes against Watenga’s 10,433 while Grace Namukhula, the
Woman MP for Namisindwa district who garnered 37,018 lost to Sarah Kayagi
Netalisire who garnered 56,578.
Florence Nambozo, the incumbent Woman MP for Siroko District also lost to the
District NRM Chairperson’s daughter Asha Mafabi Nabulo. Nambozo got 30,649
votes against Nabulos’s 37,644 votes.
The Manafwa LCV Chairperson John Musila lost to Richard Mataya the
proprietor of Abrah supermarket in Mbale City for the Manafwa MP seat and Bernard Elly Mujasi lost
to Robert Wandwasi, the former HIV/AIDS focal person Mbale District for the Mbale Central Division seat.
The Bunyole West MP James Waluswaka was defeated by Geoffrey
Mutiwa. Mutiwa, a media practitioner garnered 21,633 Votes while Waluswaka
polled 7803 votes while the former Deputy Democratic Party Vice-Chairperson for
Eastern Region Yusuf Mutembuli who polled 25,349 votes defeated the incumbent Moses
Nagwomu, who garnered 9,549 votes for the Bunyole East Constituency.
