Whoever wins the primary election on a date to be fixed will face off with the Forum Democratic Change-FDC party candidate, Juma Mafabi.
Six candidates are vying for the National Resistance Movement-NRM party ticket for the Kotido municipality mayoral seat.
They are Daniel Abual Kapel, Ismael Muhammad Lomwar, Henry Kubal, Lokut Sam Kuwam, Francis Acheboi, and Emmanuel Keem Napuso.
The contestants are already holding joint campaigns to woo voters ahead of the party primaries expected next week. Their manifestos are closely similar, with most of them promising unity in a metropolitan town, transparent leadership, and improved service deliver.

They include the former Jie County MP, Peter Abrahams Lokii, Jean Mark Aporu and social worker, David Lokona Moding. No other party is visible in the parliamentary race.
According to the Electoral Commission roadmap, nomination of candidates in the new Municipalities, town councils and sub counties will take place on 4-6 June while polling is scheduled for 17 and 19 July 2018.
The new administrative units became operational on July 1st, 2016 and July 2017.
